my little cowboy

my jay loves all things Toy Story and plays with Woody and Buzz all day long. he usually makes them fight each other--though i tell him over and over that they are actually friends. i guess it's just a boy thing to have your toys fight and wrestle each other. he also loves to wear a "ha" (hat) like Woody and ride his rocking horse saying "weeeee!" the hat was actually Scott's. he wore it on his mission in Bolivia. and jay just loves it.

lately, jay has been putting the "ha" on all his toys and tries to wear Woody's small plastic hat on his own head (it doesn't fit :) the other day, puppy got a turn wearing the hat. it was pretty fun :)

i love all the imaginative playing he is doing lately. just today, he brought this same puppy over to me and waved the puppy's hand and said, "bye!" he's becoming a little boy right before my eyes and i love it! so active, so sweet, so silly, so imaginative, so smart, so fun.

20 months

jake is 20 months old. and one day i will get a decent pic without that bink in his mouth! but he's more devoted to it than ever so i'm not sure when "that day" will come. the following is his reaction's when the bink fell from his mouth and out of reach onto the floor. pretty darn sad. haha.

my jake is such a love bug. i love getting him out of his crib after a nap. he's usually all smiles (except if he loses the bink :)

some deets on the jakester:
  • he loves my sewing machine, which i don't love so much, but i do love finding little animals and critters on top of it. he's constantly pulling the thread spool off and making tangles. c'est la vie. if it keeps him happy then...

  • he now says "bye" a lot. especially when scott leaves for work. and it is the sweetest-melt-your-heart-voice ever!
  • he's in size 2T clothes. he went through a MAJOR growth spurt the last couple of weeks and ate like there was no tomorrow. one morning he had a banana, two cuties, a couple of strawberries, a breakfast bar, an egg, a handful of cheese puffs, a graham cracker and other items i can't even remember. but seriously, he's a tank at the moment, probably due to the fact that he also consumes 4+ glasses of milk a day. at church yesterday, an older sister missionary in our ward came up to us and said, "he's such a big, healthy looking boy." and i agree, he does look healthy! ha.
  • he's loving Sandra Boynton books.
  • he loves nursery still which is a major blessing. he did not want to leave there yesterday and kept hugging his little pals.
  • when he's tired he lays his cheek on top of mine or scott's and loves to cuddle on the couch.
  • he loves cars, dinosaurs, his Buzz and Woody, books, basketball, trains and being a cowboy :)
  • he is obsessed with chocolate! when he wants some he says, "Chock!" he's constantly sneaking chocolate chips. i made some chocolate chip cookies for a baby shower over the weekend and i watched as he'd quietly and sneakily go up on his tippy toes and reeeeeach his little hand up to the cooling rack on the counter and grab a cookie then run to his chair to hide and eat. i moved the cooling rack back so he couldn't reach but he outsmarted me and pushed a chair to the counter to reach them anyways. this kid loooooves chocolate chip cookies. like mother like son.

i could just eat him up! happy 20 months jay!

another christmas post

i know...i just can't seem to let go of christmas. but i finally uploaded this little gem of a video and couldn't wait to share it. love technology and it's ability to preserve precious memories with my sweet and funny babe. and keep this in mind while watching: my floor was just cleaned. :)

*youtube did something funny to the video quality...it looks all wavy-ish? ugh.

christmas in february?

back in early december i got the hankerin' for a large, cuddly, christmas quilt to snuggle my family in. i set to work immediately... and then the christmas crazies stepped in and life got busy with shopping, decorating, wrapping, baking and eating, eating, eating. and the quilt got pushed on the back burner. i had the vision of an allover, scrappy, postage stamp quilt like this one. but after fiddling around with fabric placement i realized that i just had to have some organization. to me, it looks cleaner and more striking. so i cut a few more tiny 2.5 inch squares and sewed that thing up. which kinda took forever. and then i realized something else...this was meant to be a wall hanging. it could've been that i just didn't want to cut one more square and it could've been that i'm just pretty dang impatient but overall i just really liked it the way it was and just couldn't imagine adding more squares and possibly messing up the good thing i had going.

so the project that was meant to be a quilt for 2012 is now a wall hanging for christmas 2013. it's just the way it is. i still need to quilt and bind this cute little guy but i seriously love it and can't wait to hang it above my mantle in... oh... ten months. (and please excuse the terrible lighting/photo quality in these photos. i'm still trying to figure out ISO and all that jazz and i'd go outside but it's just too dang cold! i know you understand.)

oh and this is how jake feels about my quilting obsessions. :)

valentine's day

an impulse buy late one night had us over the moon excited to start Valentine's early. we just couldn't wait to see the look on J's face when he saw his new train set/table! as soon as we got home, scott set to work building the thing (usually he's quite reluctant to put things together, hence why our dining room chair seats are STILL not screwed to the base of the chairs ;) so i know scott was pretty excited to play with it too.

"valentine's" morning came...and...

it. was. a. HIT.
Happy Valentine's Day!
